Buying Analysis
Slow SellersThe Harris Tapper Camilla Top in Ivory was the lowest-performing style at 31.43% sell-through, leaving 24 of 35 units of remaining inventory. The Paloma Wool Olimpia Mesh Top also underperformed at 35%, suggesting these styles require markdown action and that similar products should be approached with more conservative buy quantities in future as they were overbought in this buy period.
Category PerformanceStrengthened by the individual best seller, denim was the broader best selling category with a sell-through rate of 83.3%. This showcases a strong customer demand for this category and an opportunity to grow in this category in future buys.
Denim was closely followed in category performance by dresses with an average sell-through rate of 82.1%, positioning itself as one of the brands core best-selling categories with room to increase order volumes.
These strong performing categories should remain at full-price, with isolated items put on markdown in order to clear excess stock in underproming styles.
On the other side of the spectrum, shoes were the weakest category, sitting at 68.89% average sell-through, however, still sitting in ‘good’. therefore, these numbers suggest optimisation of order quantities rather than a major reduction in the category as a whole.
Product markdowns should prioritise individual slow sellers, rather than entore slow performing categories, ie. the Camilla Top (31.43%), Olimpia Mesh Top (35%) or Golden Goose Super-Star Sneakers (34.29%).
Best SellersThe strongest individual performer was the Agolde Low Curve Jean in pendulum with a sell-through rate of 100% with zero inventory remaining. This was closely followed by multiple denim items exceeding 90% sell-through.
This would suggest the need to increase inventory ordered in this item, or similar, in the next buy in order to meet customer demand.
Markdown RecommendationOther FactorsOther factors outside this data should also influence a buying report. For example, the notes, or feedback provided to the buying team by the retail staff is very important in buying decisions. Individuals working in the retail team can provide important insight to factors influencing stock turnover. Retail staff are privy to what customers come in looking for, their feedback in the general assortment (STOCK ON HAND) available in store, while also providing insight on specific individual styles that make impact sell-through, or repurchasing.
The staff also have the power, through direct contact with the customers, to be able to optimise sales and UPT. Therefore, increased education and styling tips provided to retail staff will also impact sales.
Communication between teams and passing these key takeaways onto the buying team can provide more insight into maximising optimal sell-through.
